Our Story
Corby Women’s Centre was set up in the mid 80s by a team of dedicated volunteers who recognised that women’s needs were not being met by services in the community. This awareness was the catalyst for them to provide services including emotional support, health information, pregnancy testing and groups and courses to support women.
For 16 years it ran purely on volunteer power. It was a small service with hardly any funding and very few resources. For the first time many women accessing the Centre felt they were being heard and supported. Emotional support and pregnancy testing were the core services and still remain as such.
Since 2000, Corby Women’s Centre has been successful in securing funding from various sources like the Primary Care Trust, Lottery fund and Northamptonshire County Council that has allowed the Centre to become an employer with 6 members of staff. The commitment of staff and volunteers marked a turning point in developing the Centre from new and bigger premises, to opening 6 days a week, expanding old services and providing new ones.
We continue to operate as a respectable, professional and credible organisation. We are committed to and will continue to develop the services to match women’s needs.
